Dear St. Matthew Families,
The State of Illinois has created a new way to fund scholarships for children who choose to attend Catholic schools. It is called the Invest in Kids Act. Through the Invest in Kids Act, Illinois K-12 students will have the opportunity to receive tax-credit scholarships. The scholarships offered through this program have the potential to cover 50 to 100 percent of tuition starting with the 2018-2019 school year.
Benefits of the Invest in Kids Act:
1. Individuals or corporations will have the opportunity to donate to an independent Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). The donations will be returned as a state tax credit on their taxes. The credits are for 75 percent of each donation up to $100 million donated statewide. Individuals (not corporations) can designate their donation to an individual school.
2. Students can apply for scholarships beginning January 31, 2018. Families should apply as early as possible since scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Families should submit scholarship applications to an SGO. We recommend submitting applications to Empower Illinois (www.empowerillinois.org).
