Adult Faith Formation


Faith is a gift destined to grow in the hearts of believers. Adhering to Jesus Christ, in fact, sets in motion a process of continuing conversion, which lasts for the whole of life.

Learning and growing in our Catholic faith is something that begins in childhood, but it does not end there. It is a lifelong journey that requires prayer and study for us to grow ever closer to Jesus.

In order to assist the adults at St. Matthew in this endeavor, we offer a variety of Adult Faith Formation opportunities. Whether you want to delve deeper into study of the Bible through our Bible Studies, or have fellowship with other men and women through our Men's and Women's groups, there is something for everyone. And if there is any topic you would like to see explored in the future, contact Joe Taylor with your suggestions!

Here are our current studies:

 

Men’s Group

All the men of St. Matthew are invited to learn about how we as men can practice virtue in our daily lives. Each session will include a practical, engaging video from the very popular “Crossing the Goal” series and time for discussion.

Who: All men!

Where: Feeney Hall (located in the parish center)

When: Thursday evenings, 7:30–8:30pm

Fall 2017: 9 sessions—Sep. 21, 28; Oct. 5, 12, 19, 27; Nov. 2, 9, 16

Women’s Group

All the women of St. Matthew are invited for a night out of fellowship and reflecting on living the Catholic faith as woman of God. The popular “Blessed is She” webcast will serve as the springboard for reflection and discussion.

Who: All women!

Where: St. John Room & Feeney Hall (alternating)

When: Wednesday evenings, 7:00–8:30pm

8 sessions—Sep. 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25; Nov. 8, 15

Bible Study — Tuesday Evenings

With the approach of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s historic act that would set in motion the Protestant Reformation, it is helpful to look at the Catholic response of the time through a look at some of the key saints of the 16th century.

Come learn more about these great saints that sought to reform the Church from the inside and contributed so much to the Church we know today.

When: Tuesday evenings, 6:30–8:30pm

Bible Study — Tuesday Mornings

With the 100th anniversary of Mary’s appearance in Fatima, this is a great time to more deeply explore Mary’s role in history. In this engaging video series, there will be ample opportunity to learn and discuss Mary’s life and what she means to us as Catholics.

When: Tuesday mornings, 9:00–10:30am
